Dueling Bach, Organists and Organ Playing

The quest for gold … shoes!

Our upcoming “Dueling Bach” concert is now only a week away and only today did I send off an order for gold organ shoes!

You remember that this past summer I bought silver organ shoes to wear for Joey Fala’s wedding and I had them shipped directly to North Carolina, not willing to risk any shipping delays as is often the case with items shipped to Hawaii.

Last December, at our Organ Plus concert, Jieun Kim Newland and I wore silver tops and I wore my silver organ shoes. We had hoped that Jieun’s order for matching silver shoes would arrive in time for the concert, but alas, she was notified that silver shoes in her size would not be available until spring.

This past week, Jieun got a distressing phone call from TicTacToes, one of two American suppliers of organ shoes, with the message that the owner is retiring and closing the business! They had silver shoes, but not in her size.

As a last resort she ordered and was shipped gold shoes—and I figured I’d better order shoes to match! It will be a real nail-biter to see if those shoes arrive in time from Organmaster Shoes in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts for next week’s concert!

Yesterday we did a partial run-through of our concert, with Clayton Logue, an organist from Maui, and Georgine, Sophia and Raphael Stark in the audience. Clay took this picture of our rehearsal and posted it to Facebook.

Jieun plays the continuo organ while I’m at the bigger Beckerath organ.

Look for our (hopefully) matching gold shoes for the performance!
