Second Haydn Rehearsal

We had a special Thursday night rehearsal on the Haydn, Lord Nelson Mass.

Tonight was Carl’s last Thursday night choir rehearsal, even though ordinarily we don’t have Thursday night rehearsals in the summer time. We sure didn’t get much sleep last night because although we went to bed about 9:30 pm, we got up at 2:30 AM (!) to finish typing the bulletin before going off to work. Of course — we found mistakes in the bulletin AFTER they were all printed, but that’s par for the course. We have to keep telling ourselves that only God is perfect! And there has never been a publication printed without an error — that’s just human nature.

Anyway we welcomed Vicki Gorman, soprano, who flew in from Houston yesterday. Vicki spent 20 years at LCH and directed the F.R.O.G.S. Choir (Families Revering Our God in Song). She will be singing the solos in the Lord Nelson Mass.

At the break, it was Carl’s harebrained idea to move the piano to the opposite end of the nave and UP two steps to the raised section. It took a lot of choir brawn to do it but it happened! On Sunday there will be close to 80 people performing for Carl’s service, and the piano is needed on the Ewa end of the building for the 8:00 am ensemble and the F.R.O.G.S. choir.

The choir also rehearsed Peter Philips “Tu es Petrus” in double choir formation.

Allen Bauchle will conduct the Peter Philips double choir motet.
