Organists and Organ Playing

On to Mykonos

It was a short night, owing to the fact that the Greek evening did not end until 11:00 pm, and by the time we returned to the hotel and I uploaded my videos, it was nearly midnight.

I responded to a text message from former student Joey Fala asking if I would play the organ during communion for his wedding. Of course I said yes! It’s going to be a case of musical benches, as three other Organists who have had a hand in Joey’s musical development are going to play various parts of the service.

With a wake up call scheduled for 5:15 am, I was worried that I would oversleep, and woke up twice: once at 2 am and the other time at 4 am. By that time I just stayed up and finished packing. We were supposed to leave our suitcases outside our room doors for pickup by the porter.

It was still dark when I went to the ninth floor for breakfast and I had a good view of the illuminated Acropolis.

Today we took a short bus ride to the dock, then boarded a Sea Jet ferry for the three hour ride to Mykonos.

After we dropped the luggage at the hotel, we set off on a walking tour of the town, characterized by its white-washed buildings with colorful doorways.

Mykonos

Our hotel, Bellevue
Lots of cruise ships and boats in the harbor

I found a very ornate Orthodox Church and was amazed at the amount of decoration in such a small building

.

Contrast all the ornate decoration to an adjacent Roman Catholic Church, which was rather plain.:

Our tour director, Raquel, took us to a Greek fast food restaurant so as to avoid the misunderstandings we had yesterday, and after a short walk around for shopping, we went back to the hotel to shower and rest.

For dinner we went back to town and had a wonderful meal at Funky Kitchen, where we dined al fresco right in the deserted street. Luckily it had cooled down and was very comfortable.

After dinner we went out to look at the spectacular sunset, along with a couple thousand other people!

What a beautiful place!
