At Paradise Beach, Mykonos

When asked how many times I go to the beach, and I answer, “It’s been DECADES,” people can’t believe it since I live in Hawaii. Who in Hawaii doesn’t go to the beach?! ME!!

In fact, I think it has been at least 30 years since I even owned a bathing suit!

You guessed it, going to the beach is definitely NOT my thing—I hate the heat, the sun, sand in-between your toes and in all your clothes—I am the first person to look for the shade!

But as I told myself, you simply cannot go to Greece without bringing a bathing suit, so I bought one over the internet.

Here we are at Paradise Beach on the island of Mykonos. Yes, I DID go into the water, just to say that I’ve done it!

On our way here, we stopped at an abandoned lighthouse, where the intensity of the blue water was stunning, and it was very windy.

We also visited an small Orthodox Church and monastery—you know me, I won’t pass up an opportunity to go enter a church to take pictures, even though I know there won’t be an organ there. The liturgy of the Greek Orthodox Church doesn’t allow for pipe organs.

I went into a museum of the monastery grounds where they were playing a recording of Greek liturgical chant, which gave an other worldly flavor to the building interior.

  1. Same for me about the beach……..hot sun, heat, sand, etc……….not my thing either. Continually enjoy your posts. Don’t know if you know Mark Boyle, my successor as Director of Choral/Vocal Activities at Seton HILL University, Greensburg Pa. He spent some time in Hawaii as a member of the Navy.
