Organists and Organ Playing

An inspired performance

So how was the Polish Renaissance concert? Here are a couple of notes I received:

I REALLY enjoyed your solos last night! The whole concert was great, but especially the instrumental numbers. (Mark Russell)

Aloha Kathy, Thank you for the excellent concert. What hidden gems you all put together! Interesting to me, having sung in Russian Orthodox choirs, to hear the Slavic rooted church vocabulary in Polish. I also especially enjoyed the organ trios. They were bright and delightful. It was interesting to me to hear the fugue form written by someone roughly 100 years before Bach. I am wondering about the origins of the fugue form. (Janet Sharp)

Here’s what Ian Capps, president of Early Music Hawai’i, wrote to the performers about Saturday’s “The Polish Renaissance “ concert:

Thank you for a simply wonderful concert. All the singing was inspiring – powerful when needed, especially in the Bogurodzica and Nunc Dimittis, always elegant and moving. The instrumental prices were a great contrast, well chosen and excitingly played, and Kathy’s organ solos were terrific.

Special thanks to Alec for inspiring the best in all performers and achieving such a high level of performance on only three rehearsals and in a repertory unfamiliar to most of us. Thanks also to the Brothers Nowicki for translations, language tuition and provision of tasty Polish chocolates. Karol was a magnificent Neptune!

Thanks also to Scott for inspiring the project after his visit to Poland together with Keane, Karol, Michal and some other Hawaii colleagues who are no longer with us. Sorry you could not witness the show, Scott!

Thanks to Bill Potter who took these photos during the concert.

Thanks for coming!
