Organists and Organ Playing

New to me in Norway

I’m chilling out in my room at the Premier Inn at London Heathrow prior to taking an early morning flight to Copenhagen, Los Ángeles and the finally to Honolulu. I would like to share my photos of new things I encountered in Norway—excluding places and people.

How many of these things have you seen before?

This is a blueberry picker, for scooping up blueberries on the vine.
These are cloudberries, somewhat like raspberries in texture but not as tart.
This is a hymn board, no surprise there, but look how the numbers are held up with little tiny nails.

Have you ever tasted reindeer stew? It was very tender and delicious.

This is a Norwegian traditional folk costume, called “bunad.” I never heard this term before. I learned that each province/region can be identified by the decorations on their bunad.

Several people asked me what part of Norway was my favorite. Hmmm…. that’s a hard one.

I certainly loved…

  • seeing the colorful wooden houses in Bergen
  • experiencing the cool spray on my face as I saw one stunning waterfall after another
  • traveling through seemingly endless tunnels one after another. Did you know that the longest tunnel in Norway is 23 miles long?! The longest tunnel we traveled through on our tour was 4.4 miles long and that seemed endless to me!
  • having a hotel room right along the water in Balestrand
  • playing the fabulous organs in Bergen (St Mary’s) and Arendal (Trefoldighetskirken)
  • meeting new friends and reuniting with friends from the distant past

and so much more!

I LOVED NORWAY! and I hope someday that I can return to see the Northern Lights!
