Friday, September 19, 7:30 pm, Early Music Hawaii dedicates their opening concert to Carl’s memory, Triumph Against the Odds: Early Women Composers of the Convent and Beyond, at St. Theresa’s Co-Cathedral. Music of Hildegard of Bingen, Chiara Margarita Cozzolani, Isabella Leonarda, Francesca Caccini and Barbara Strozzi by an all-women’s choir and orchestra. Gathering to Give Thanks for Carl’s Life, Fall City, Washington, Spring 2015, hosted by J. Melvin Butler and Mary Coon at Peter Hallock’s former residence. Guests will be served on the dishes Carl purchased for Peter Hallock’s 85th birthday and left in the house.
At a date yet to be determined, Maurice Duruflé’s “Requiem,” will be performed by the Hawaii Vocal Arts Ensemble, a request made by Carl Crosier, a co-founder of this choir.
I understand also that last Sunday, just three days after Carl transitioned from this life to the next, Miguel Felipe (Carl’s successor) announced that in the liturgical calendar, it was exactly three years ago that Carl conducted his final service at the Lutheran Church of Honolulu, and the music was the same.
Here’s what Cindy Scheinert wrote me: Miguel may have told you this, but before the service this a.m., Angela announced Carl’s passing, and Miguel noted that it was exactly 3 years ago that Carl led his final service at LCH. Since the liturgy is on a 3-year cycle, today’s music was identical to that of Carl’s final service. It was a reminder to me that God’s hand is in all. Miguel said the only difference would be the requiem that the choir sang in Carl’s honor. I couldn’t help but think that Carl was there listening.
