Children’s Sabbath 2011

This Sunday, Children’s Sabbath will be celebrated at the Lutheran Church of Honolulu. According to the Children’s Defense Fund website, the National Observance of Children’s Sabbaths Celebration is “a way for faith communities to celebrate children as sacred gifts of the Divine, and provides the opportunity for houses of worship to renew and live out their moral responsibility to care, protect and advocate for all children.”

Jordan M. was one of the featured performers at PipeWorks this past summer.

At LCH, it has been an opportunity for our children to showcase their musical talents, and this week we will hear several offerings by the F.R.O.G.S. Choir (Families Revering our God in Song) and by one of my organ students, Jordan M. who will be playing Dietrich Buxtehude’s “Toccata in F, BuxWV 157” for the postlude at both 8:00 and 10:30 services. Jordan will also be taking the very brave challenge of playing the liturgy from the Evangelical Lutheran Worship for the 10:30 service, a first for him!

We’ll also hear a piano solo by Miranda L. and violin and cello duet by Max and Reid W. Come give these children your moral support! (And I more or less get the day off since the kids will be covering the prelude and postlude.)
