Last season I started to write about some of the newer members of the LCH Choir (check out my posts on Heidi Shimada and Nicole Masaki) and today I’m going to tell you about our newest (and youngest!) chorister in the 10:30 am choir: Miles Provencher. Miles actually sung bass with the choir for our Bach B-Minor Mass — that is, he sang all the rehearsals, but then had to be away the weekend of the performances.

Miles is presently a senior at Punahou School across the street (yes, President Obama’s alma mater!) and he has loved singing all his life. When he was a student at Hanahauoli School, just a couple of blocks away from LCH, his music teacher recognized his talent and he became a member of the Honolulu Boy Choir. Later he spent three years with the Hawaii Youth Opera Chorus, and is now a member of the Punahou Chorale and the Hawaii Opera Theatre chorus.

Last year he attended the Oregon Bach Festival and sang with the massed high school choir (conducted by St. Olaf’s Anton Armstrong). David Del Rocco, who sings bass in the LCH choir and teaches at Punahou, had Miles in his class, and suggested that he try out the LCH choir — and so, now he’s the new kid on the block!
