It was on a Friday night, July 15, 1977, that Carl and I were married at the Lutheran Church of Honolulu, so that means tomorrow is our 34th wedding anniversary. Last year at this time, we celebrated our anniversary in Saintes, France, and I was away from my computer. This year we’re home, so I thought I’d share some of the pictures from our wedding day. My first reaction in seeing all these old pictures was, “My God, Carl, look at your hair!”

“The Wedding” was the first of countless Crosier Productions, and really started two weeks before with the presentation of two recitals by organist McNeil Robinson (an all-Bach recital at LCH followed a week later by an all-Franck recital at St. Andrew’s Cathedral). The phone sometimes rang 50 times in one day from people calling in for tickets! Neil then stayed an extra week to play the organ and direct the choir for the wedding.

Then, there was all the sewing. The wedding logo, designed by LCH parishioner, artist Roland Roy, was sewn into a processional banner. Stoles were sewn for each of the three clergy, as well as the dress for the maid of honor. My sister Doris also designed and sewed my hat.

The Wedding Bulletin was the first of hundreds of multi-page church bulletin programs we have produced, and in those days, it was done on a typewriter! Carol Langner silkscreened the covers, and at one time a bedroom was turned into a silkscreen factory, with bulletin covers all over the place, in varying degrees of dryness.

We had three clergy: The Rev. Ray Kringel (celebrant); The Rev. Curtis Zimmerman (deacon) and The Rev. Charles Burger (subdeacon). Other participants were: Mark Johnson, thurifer; Michelle Bricker, crucifer; Daniel Johnson and Jonathan Johnson, acolytes; Lisa Robertson, bannerbearer.

I listed the music from the wedding ceremony in last year’s post, 33 Years of Music-Making, and found the names of the eight Compline Singers in the program: Allan  Haley, Fred Langner, John Graham, Dale Noble, Joseph Dellinger, Malcolm Tait, James Heian, and John Anthony. We borrowed handbells from Trinity Lutheran Church in Wahiawa as LCH did not yet have their own sets.

We walked out to the joyous organ improvisation by McNeil Robinson. Everyone in the congregation stood in their places and listened quietly until the music was over. (No, it was just beginning!)
