It has been just over a week since our Monteverdi concerts and that beautiful music is still stuck in my head! It seems like everywhere we go, we encounter people who were at one of the performances and were so profoundly moved by it all. For some people, it was almost a religious, “mountain-top” experience, something they will never forget. And that goes for the performers, too!

I wanted to let you know that a letter is coming from Garrett Webb, president of Early Music Hawaii, with this message:

Thank you for your support of Early Music Hawai‘i and the Monteverdi Vespers of 1610.

From all accounts, the music was world class … but more importantly it really moved people. We hope that you were one of those who truly appreciated the presence of great music in our community.

The cost for producing events such as these is very high. And, unfortunately, because of unanticipated expenses, the Monteverdi concerts were presented at a financial loss.

We hope that, as one who experienced this wonderful music, you may be able to make a contribution to offset the $13,000 deficit for the concerts. Any donations are gratefully accepted and, of course, all donations to Early Music Hawai‘i are fully tax deductible. On Sunday, we had a Concert Committee meeting about the situation, and Carl Crosier said we cannot continue forward with our plans for Bach’s “Mass in B Minor,” without taking care of this deficit first.  Please, if you are financially able, think about contributing to Early Music Hawaii to alleviate this deficit. All we need are 13 people to contribute $1,000 each; or 26 people to contribute $500 each. Or, if the approximately 700 people who were fortunate to have heard the concerts could contribute another $20 we’d have it made!
