A little bit of Hawaii in Portland

After the ALCM conference concluded with an Itinerarium (Sending) service, we spent the entire next day driving to Seattle and back (a round trip of around 400 miles) while Carl took care of some of unexpected executor responsibilities for Peter Hallock. Since then we moved out of the Radisson Hotel and have been staying with former LCH parishioners and Honolulu Symphony players Janet (violin) and Greg Dubay (cello) in their beautiful home here. Janet has a true green thumb and has been able to cultivate several pineapple plants, plumeria, orchids, hibiscus, anthurium and poinsettia!

They also have a Hawaiian quilt in their living room which includes the Hawaii state flag and scenes of Hawaii such as a hula dancer, an erupting volcano, leaping dolphins, a ukulele, etc.

Thankfully the cold rain, thunder and lightning of the early part of the week has passed, and so Janet and Greg took us on a tour of the Columbia Gorge just outside of Portland, including Latourell Falls, Multnomah Falls and Skamania, across the Washington state border —gorgeous Gorge!
