The List of Lasts

All season, Carl Crosier has maintained a mental list:

The Last Reformation Day — Check!
The Last Advent Procession — Check!
The Last Christmas Eve  — Check!
The Last Christmas Day  — Check!
The Last German Vespers — Check!
The Last Joint Evensong — Check!

And now we have come to Holy Week and Easter, Carl’s last as Cantor of the Lutheran Church of Honolulu after 38 years. It’s funny, although this week supposedly is one of our “marathon” weeks, I’m feeling that it’s not going to be so strenuous after all.

Here’s what we have:

Palm Sunday, services at 8:00 am, 10:00 am, and 9:00 pm (Compline)
Monday night, 4/18, Dress rehearsal for Easter Day, 7:00 pm
Tuesday night, 4/19, free
Wednesday night, 4/20, free
Maundy Thursday, 4/21, rehearsal at 6:15 pm, service at 7:30 pm
Good Friday, rehearsal at 6:30 pm, service at 7:30 pm
Saturday—Easter Vigil, rehearsal at 5:45 pm, followed by dinner, service at 7:30 pm
Sunday —Easter Day, services at 8:00 am, 10:30 am and 9:00 pm (Compline)

Wow! did I read that right — two nights free this week! See, it won’t be so bad after all!

In the meantime, I’ve finished typing the 10:30 am Easter Day bulletin and only have the 8:00 am Easter Day bulletin yet to do. Hey, it’s entirely possible that we will have the programs ready well before the services this week — not like St. Stephen’s Day (Dec. 26th) and German Vespers (Jan. 2nd) when we picked up the programs only an hour before the service.

Now, finally,  a first for this year!
