Music in the Stacks

Most of the repertoire for the library concert is for Advent.

Tomorrow morning, December 11th at 11:45 am the Lutheran Church of Honolulu Choir will give its annual Christmas concert at the Hawaii State Library. We’ve given this concert annually for many years now, ever since David Del Rocco, in the bass section, used to work there. Even though David now teaches at Punahou School, we still get invited back to sing at the library.

Here’s the music we’ll be singing:

Rorate caeli desuper (Hermann Schroeder)
O virtus Sapientia (Hildegard of Bingen)
There is a flower sprung of a tree (Stanley Vann)
O Heiland reiss, die Himmel auf (Johannes Brahms)
Illuminare Jerusalem (Judith Weir)
Ecce concipies (Jacob Handl)
Ding dong, merrily on high (Traditional carol, arr. Charles Wood)
The Queen’s Prayer (arr. Carl Crosier)

I think it will be the first time we don’t have to schlep any handbells or keyboard instruments or harps or any other musical instruments! It will be a purely a cappella concert.

I’m thinking of bringing my iPad to use as a pitch pipe!
