On Sunday we entertained our first guests, er, they entertained us since my husband, Carl Crosier, was released to hospice care in our home. It was The Stark Family, who put on a most enjoyable mini-concert with all four members of the family either singing or playing. I must tell you, it was really great to hear… Read More At home mini-concert
Apparently the graphic designer for the Oahu Choral Society Bach program and postcards, doesn’t know what BWV stands for when used after the title of a Bach work. It was consistently listed as BMV 232 throughout, so I was trying to figure out that instead of “Bach Werk-Verzeichnis (BWV), maybe he/she thought the concert was… Read More Ear worm Bach II
Are organists the only musicians who never know what to expect when they have to perform on their instruments? I can’t tell you the number of times I have come to the church and found something not working on the organ. There was the time I was scheduled to play Jeremiah Clarke’s Trumpet Voluntary in… Read More Handicapped!
It’s Jennifer Lane, the mezzo soprano who sang in the Lutheran Church’s performances of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, St. John Passion and Pergolesi Stabat Mater! We spent the morning shopping before getting to our first concert this afternoon at 3:30 pm. Being at the Boston Early Music Festival is a cross… Read More A musical banquet
One of the traditions we have in the Crosier household is that we always have guests sign our guest book. We actually started the book at our wedding 34 years ago and we’re now on volume 5! When someone comes to dinner or is a houseguest or comes to play a recital or sing in… Read More The Guest Book
One of the aims of this blog is to document events, past and present, in the musical life of the Lutheran Church of Honolulu. In addition to doing all those Bach cantatas, certainly one of the big events which “put us on the map,” were the two performances of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, March 31… Read More Bach put LCH on the map!
When Carl found out that there was going to be an Early Music Festival in Berkeley titled “Four Hundred Years of Vespers” and would feature workshops on the Monteverdi Vespers, he jumped at the chance to attend. As it turned out, Ian Capps and Jeannette Johnson, occasional LCH choristers, were also scheduled to go. Coincidentally… Read More Berkeley Early Music Festival, June 10-13, 2010
