This afternoon was the second all-Mozart Konzert and I feel that after today’s program, the fortepiano redeemed itself by staying mostly in tune. For one thing, the air conditioning went off after the Sunday morning services, and we left the fortepiano’s cover on. Carl came to tune the piano about 2:45.

We changed the order of the program and started with the Violin Concerto in A major, K. 478, with Darel Stark, soloist, then ended the first half with Venite, populi, K. 260 for double choir and orchestra. Then followed intermission, at which time Carl did touch-up tuning on the fortepiano. Georgine Stark then sang the brilliant Exsultate jubilate, K. 165, and while they setup the stage, Miguel Felipe explained the difference between the fortepiano and modern piano. Fantasia in D Minor, K. 397, followed, concluding with the Piano Quartet in G Minor, K. 478. By rearranging the order of the program and printing the texts and translations on an insert, we saved ourselves fifteen minutes over last night’s program!

Everyone played or sung even more brilliantly this afternoon and we had an even bigger audience. I turned Carl’s pages on the Piano Quartet and didn’t let his book keep closing as it kept doing last night. Afterwards a bunch of us went out to Phuket Thai Restaurant to celebrate.
