Cattywompus. Death warmed over. Those were two of the old-fashioned but endearing terms my husband Carl used to use which describes my state of jet lag right now.
I had a 7:00 am flight out of Honolulu to San Francisco, and then to London. I told my taxi driver to pick me up at 5:00 am to take me to the airport. Of course, I didn’t want to oversleep and set my alarm for 4:30 am. Wouldn’t you know it, I was wide awake at 1:54 am and never could get back to sleep.
I didn’t sleep a wink the entire way, naturally, and arrived at London Heathrow at 11:18 am the following day. By the time I passed through passport control and walked to my hotel in Terminal 4, it was about 1:30 pm.
My friend, Joan Ishibashi, came to my hotel at 4 pm and she helped me buy a bus ticket to Luton airport from where I’ll fly to Glasgow. We took the train to the Ealing Broadway area to have dinner at a Caribbean restaurant called Turtle Bay (!). I finally got back to the hotel at 8:30 pm.
I had been up for almost 36 hours and got about 4 hours of sleep when I got up to use the facilities and my phone buzzed with a text that needed my attention, about 12:30 am. I have yet to go back to sleep and now it’s nearly 4 am! I decided I may as well be productive and write this post! Luckily my flight to Glasgow is not until 4:00 pm!
On to another adventure!
Half way around the world! Enjoy your stay once you get some sleep! jb
