A couple of weeks ago, Tim Carney of the Hawai’i Vocal Arts Ensemble wrote me:
Organist for Luigi Gatti Creation?
Hi Kathy, HVAE is singing this fascinating Mass based on music from Haydn’s Creation…Gatti was one of many composers who adapted Haydn’s music for a Mass setting in the early 18th century. It has an organ part (realized!) If you’re available, I’d love to have you play. rehearsal is likely Friday, Oct. 21 6-9pm and two concerts, Sat. Oct 22 7:30pm at St. John Lutheran in Kailua and Sun. Oct 23 4pm at LCH.
Sorry, I will be in Europe.
Then, this email from Pastor Jeff Lilley.
Dear Kathy, I’m not sure if you got the message that Brenda Moore Passed away. I spoke with her daughter Lana. They would like to have a service here at LCH on October 22nd. I am writing to see if you would like to play organ that day. I felt like the organ would be a more fitting tribute for Brenda. The service is scheduled for 11:30am on October 22. I am anticipating Prelude, postlude, and three hymns. I doubt we will do communion that day. Please let me know if you are available for this service,
Sorry, I will be in Europe.
Then, just a couple of days ago, I received an email from Marie Lickwar.
Aloha Kathy, We are looking to secure an organist for Reformation Sunday at Lutheran Church of Honolulu on October 30 at 10 am and a rehearsal the Thursday before, October 27. Choir rehearsal is at 7 pm, but we may want to add a brass rehearsal before the 7 pm choir rehearsal. Please let me know if you are available at your earliest convenience.
Sorry, I will be in Europe.
[By the way, I can announce my absence from Honolulu with complete confidence because I live at Fort Knox with 24-hour security and zillions of closed circuit cameras!]
Seriously, seems like I’m going to be away at the wrong time! Sadly, I can’t be two places at once!
Which brings me to this flyer which was distributed at the American Guild of Organists potluck last week:
Sorry, I will be going to the season opener of the Hawai’i Symphony Orchestra, Dvorak’s “New World Symphony.”
I wish I could be in two places at once!
Bon voyage
