On Sunday after the 10:30 am service, we began the transformation of the church into a concert hall. The first step was to bring the extra platforms down from over the Board Room, and to move the continuo organ off the elevated floor. Yes, that means I will not be playing the big organ and won’t have my back to the conductor!
We went out to lunch with an Association of Lutheran Church Musician colleague visiting from Long Island, NY, Cindy Holden and her husband, Rex, then went to the airport to pick up two of our visiting artists. Meg Bragle (alto) flew in from New York City, and Sarah Markovits (2nd soprano) came in from Washington, DC.
After Compline was when the real transformation began. I unlatched the pedal board from the organ so it could be stored in the corner, and the platforms and chairs were moved into place for the concert.
I’m really sad that I will miss the performances of Bach’s mass. I know it will be a great performance. Much aloha,
Doug
