Spectacular scenery in Cornwall

We were the only guests at the farmhouse

A hearty farmhouse breakfast

After a HUGE breakfast at the Tregellist Farm, we were picked up by Jon of Cornwall Tours for a scheduled eight hours-long custom tour of the Cornwall countryside. But first—we ran into a Cornwall traffic jam!

A bunch of cows were on their way to be milked!

Our first stop was Port Isaac aka Portwenn, the fictional village in the television show, Doc Martin. However I’ll be reserving pictures and commentary on this village in another post. They were setting up for filming at the school but we were a little too early to see any of the cast. However, we managed to get a photo of Portwenn School.

The sign is only put up for the filming then taken down.

After Port Isaac, we drove to Port Gaverne, where our driver heard they were doing more filming. As you can see, it was an absolutely gorgeous day with spectacular scenery!

We climbed the hill and spoke to two members of the rigging crew about their jobs on the TV program. They were absolutely thrilled when I gave them boxes of chocolate macadamia candy from Hawaii!

Our next stop was at Tintagel, linked with the legend of King Arthur, and another stunning combination of rugged mountains and deep blue ocean. You can see that there is construction on the site—they are building a glass pedestrian bridge between two points, which will surely spoil the natural beauty here!

We stopped to see the Parish Church of St. Julitta Lanteglos and found the entire building covered by scaffolding for reconstruction. Apparently the stonework is deteriorating so much that water has entered it, so the church is being restored.

People still put flowers on gravesites around the outside of the church.

We then stopped at St. Nonna’s, considered the “Cathedral of the Moors.” I’ll continue our tour of this church in the next post, the site of the wedding of television’s Doc Martin to Louisa Glasson.
