Tonight I put on a dinner party in the best Crosier tradition and invited the Duruflé/Ferko concert principals—Scott Fikse, director of the Lutheran Church of Honolulu Choir who will be conducting Duruflé’s motet, Ubi caritas, and the world-premiere of Frank Ferko’s Missa O Magne Pater; Tim Carney, director of the Hawai’i Vocal Arts Ensemble who will conduct the Duruflé Requiem; and their partners; two long-time patrons of the LCH music program; guest organist Jonathan Dimmock; and composer Frank Ferko — altogether, eight men and one woman (me!)
In planning the menu I realized that it’s a lot like planning a concert — You have to balance heavy and light foods; alternate sweet and savory flavors; just like you might have alternate loud and soft sounds, heavy and light music. You have to take your audience into consideration — and I knew two of my guests were lactose-intolerant.
Everyone seemed to be happy with the foods I chose, so here is a slideshow of tonight’s meal.

Let me say we all had a GREAT time! And last night’s dress rehearsal for the Duruflé Requiem was absolutely GLORIOUS. You’ll not want to miss it! Check out the details on the ArtsHawaii calendar.

What a glorious tribute for your husband.I hope that this gives you inner peace.
My best wishes go to you.
