We are in the Pacific Northwest, and since the weather seemed unusually nice for this time of year, decided to visit Victoria, BC. We stayed overnight in Port Angeles then took an early morning ferry to Victoria.

Of course no trip to a new city is complete without visiting the local cathedral, so after a quick bus tour and lunch, we walked to Christ Cathedral, home to a beautiful large organ built by Helmut Wolff in 2006, new since our last visit. But that instrument was only one of five, count ’em, pipe organs we saw in the building.

There was a large plaque memorializing all the organists of the Cathedral, and a name we recognized was Graham Steed,

One of my Facebook organ friends, Dorothy Young Riess, mentioned that she was Graham Steed‘s assistant here in the 50s. Longtime Honolulu residents may remember that he played a recital at St. Andrew’s Cathedral in the 70s.

We all opted to take in High Tea at the Empress Hotel following a quick and nondescript bus tour, a most civilized and delicious way to spend the afternoon!
