Undoubtedly you’ve heard of one-name celebrities — people who are recognizable by just their first name — such as Cher and Beyoncé.
If there is ever a person in the organ world that could go only by one name and be universally recognized, it’s Joey Fala, who I see changed his FaceBook persona to just Joey. In my Christmas letter of 2013, I mentioned that I had a reunion with my former organ student in Boston, where he was undergoing an internship with an architectural lighting firm. You might remember how proud we were of Joey when he took first place in the New York City Chapter and second place in the Hartford AGO/Quimby Regional Competition for Young Organists. Check out my post here.
Joey is home for the holidays and will be giving a free organ recital on Friday, January 10 at 12:15 pm at St. Andrew’s Cathedral. Here’s his program:
Charles Tournemire (1870-1939):
Choral-Improvisation sur le “Victimae paschali”
Louis Vierne (1870-1937):
Adagio from Symphony No. 3, Op. 28
Maurice Durufle (1902-1986):
Prelude, Adagio et Choral Varie sur le theme du “Veni Creator”, Op. 4
Hope you can make it!
