Getting ready for Bach

Last night after choir rehearsal, choristers were asked to stay to help transform the church into a concert hall for our Bach Pilgrimage concert on April 21st. Since the Lutheran Church of Honolulu was extensively remodeled in 1974, one of the building’s greatest asset has been its flexibility to configure the room differently for varying purposes.

For this concert, the choir will be singing in split chorus formation with Choir I on stage right and Choir II on stage left. The extra choir riser was brought down from the loft for Choir I. Next the two altar platforms were moved in front of the organ and will form the “stage.” The harpsichord was brought from the Ewa side of the nave and was placed directly in the center of the stage.

Lastly all the pews were turned to face the organ, and voilà! We have a concert hall!

Except for a few more music stands, we're all ready for the concert!
