There were twenty-two (count ’em!) pieces of music in tonight’s Maundy Thursday service, and there would have been twenty-three had the footwashing not been so efficient. We unfortunately had to cut “Ubi caritas” by Maurice Duruflé because no more music was needed during the footwashing rite.

After the last note was sounded, I pressed the dimmer switch for the lights, and we all walked out in darkness and in silence.
My friend and I went to this service. I read about Lutheran Church of Honolulu’s Holy Week music in the Star Advertiser and was eager to hear some beautiful liturgical arrangements. You did not disappoint. The whole service was a celebration of God’s love, and the delight His people take in glorifying Him with the talent He gave them. What a joyful experience. Thank you and all the other musicians so much for worshipping and serving Him so faithfully. My friend and I were truly blessed by it.
