Those were Carl’s words after the rehearsal with the orchestra tonight. “The orchestra is finally responding to me, and is getting into the style.” Tonight we worked primarily on Part II, beginning with the Credo. Everything seemed a little easier tonight. Even the sopranos popped their high Bs with ease. Carl said, “There are NO weak players in this orchestra!”
Something that he learned from our recent trip to Valparaiso University to hear the Bach Collegium Japan’s performance of the same work was that Masaaki Suzuki had the obbligato players stand when playing their solos. We’ll do the same in our performance, so that the dialogue between singers and players is more obvious.
On Wednesday night we’ll run the whole piece complete, from start to finish, in order. Don’t forget to turn to Hawaii Public Radio on Wednesday morning to hear Carl Crosier, David Newman and Meg Bragle interviewed by Gene Schiller.
