Today, July 15th, 2010, is our 33rd wedding anniversary. It was on this day 33 years ago that LCH held one of the most elaborate weddings ever! I remember it was the week before the wedding, and Carl and I decided to compile a To-Do list. There were 115 items on the list! I already mentioned in an earlier post that we brought McNeil Robinson from New York City to play the organ — an all-Bach concert on one weekend at LCH, followed by an all-Franck concert at St. Andrew’s Cathedral. Two weeks before the wedding we were receiving 50 phone calls a day asking about concert tickets. My sister Doris came 17 days before the wedding and was immediately put to work embroidering stoles for the clergy and helping to answer the phone. It was absolutely wild!

The Compline Choir sang the introit for a wedding, adapted from Peter Hallock’s Pascha Nostrum for 2-part choir and handbells. Carl went over to the choir stalls to join the Compline Choir in singing Maurice Duruflé’s “Ubi caritas,” and I myself went to the organ to play François Couperin’s “Tierce en taille” for the communion. McNeil Robinson improvised a grand recessional on the organ and then we were off to an adventure of a lifetime.

We had dinner in the hotel restaurant and I forgot to ask the wait staff to take our picture, so you’ll have to be satisfied with some pictures of the fabulous food we ate. We feasted on smoked salmon, boeuf carpaccio, a local fresh fish, duck with raspberry sauce, clafoutis (a cherry custard pastry) and white peaches in rosewater. Of course, Carl had cognac to finish the meal, Martel XO, the best he says he has ever had.
